Top Distractions When Driving

One of the reasons why people get into car accidents is because of distracted driving. Based on the 2010 to 2011 data, more than 65,000 people died in a car accident. According to statistics from the Fatality Analysis Reporting System or FARS, an average of 1 out of 10 in cars get into an accident because the driver is distracted.

Here are some of the top distractions drivers should avoid.

  1. Daydreaming

62% of drivers who are unfocused are caused by daydreaming. Drivers who are lost in thought are more prone to collision. This is the biggest cause of distracted driving.

Most often, drivers fail to see what’s in front of their car because their mind is wandering elsewhere. The next time you drive, make sure your eyes and thoughts stay focused on the road. Reserve your daydreaming before you sleep at night where your imagination is free to run wild and you don’t have to risk anyone’s life.

  1. Using your mobile phone

Using your mobile phone in the car is second on our list. Answering your phone can already get you into trouble even if you use the Bluetooth device and hands-free function in your vehicle. Talking to someone can get you distracted and lost in your conversation.

Texting is even worse. Taking your hand off the steering wheel to text is a big no-no. If you really need to call or send someone an urgent message, park your car in a safe area before you use your mobile phone.

  1. Eating or drinking

Another way to get distracted on the road is driving while eating and drinking. Having food in your vehicle means you have to use one of your hands to eat or drink. As mentioned above, anything that entails you to take your hands off the wheel isn’t a good thing.

Imagine that you are drinking your favorite brew from the coffee shop and suddenly, your cup spills all over your shirt and trousers. For a fraction of a minute, you become surprised and disoriented as you try to reach for your half-empty cup on the floor.

So what happens next? Well, you can leave that to your imagination. You might not notice an approaching car or a cat might suddenly decide to cross the road. Afterward, you’ll probably wish that you didn’t buy that coffee on your way to work. Keep a stock of our KevianClean Interior Defense to clean any leftover stains on your vehicle.

When you’re driving, make sure you avoid all of the possible distractions we mentioned above.
