How to Take Care of your Leather Wallet

Leather wallets have a certain appeal for both men and women. Compared to other materials, leather has certain qualities that makes it stand out from the rest. Knowing how to take care of your leather wallet will ensure that it lasts you a long time.

Your wallet often receives a lot of beating, especially since you are constantly abusing it on a daily basis. This makes it prone to wear and tear. It is usually stuck in your pocket for most part of the day and can even be exposed to different types of environment. Your wallet may be unprotected from dryness or moisture.

Here are some tips on how to effectively take care of your leather wallet.

  1. Clean your wallet – This is a simple step yet most people tend to neglect this. Once they buy a wallet they often think that it doesn’t need cleaning. Here is where they are wrong. Cleaning your leather wallet is the most important step in keeping your wallet in good condition.
  1. Do not use a washing machine - Throwing your leather wallet in the washing machine will only damage your wallet. Instead, wash it by hand.

Use a mild soap, warm water, and a clean cloth to eliminate dirt especially in the inner parts of your wallet that are hard to clean. Then rinse it off and let your wallet dry. Do not expose your wallet to high temperatures because it can leave your wallet damaged, dry, cracked, and stiff.

  1. Apply a leather conditioner – After cleaning your leather wallet, use our KevianClean Leather Cleaner and Conditioner. This will keep your wallet moisturized and prevent the leather from cracking, peeling or drying out.

Your wallet’s leather loses its natural oils over time. Apply a leather conditioner at least every six months to protect it from damage.

  1. Remove the stains immediately – In case you get a stain on your leather wallet, make sure you address it immediately. Do not ignore it. The longer you leave the stain, the harder it will be to remove.

You can use a cloth and an alcohol to dab the stain away. However, before you apply it, test it on a small area first.

There are different kinds of leather wallets. We highly recommended you invest in a high-quality leather instead of buying the inexpensive ones. A leather conditioner won’t have much effect on a cheap leather material. Besides, a good leather wallet is worth every penny.
