8 Things to Check before Going on a Road Trip

Road trips are undeniably one of the best adventures one could ever have. Since you will be going for a long ride, it is imperative that you check specific parts of your car. This will make sure that nothing goes wrong while you are on the road because that is the lasting we would want to happen.

Below are some of the things that you will need to check before you pack up your bags and start a memorable road trip:

  1. Fluids – All fluids in the car such as oil, coolant, windscreen wash levels, and brake fluid must be checked before going out. Keeping them full and clean helps in avoiding accidents from unnecessary breakdowns. If you do not know where these fluids are stored, ask a professional mechanic for help.
  2. Air pressure – There is a limit to how much pressure you can put on your car tires. Failure to monitor this would cause possible blowouts and accidents. Make sure you check your tire pressure and refill the air if necessary.
  3. Get your oil changed – Forget about scheduled maintenance. If you are out for a drive, you must have your oil changed right away. Don't assume that simply replacing the old oil with new fluid will help. The residue of the old oil will still stick inside. Plus, the oil filter must also be changed.
  4. Tire wear – At least 1.6mm tread must be left in your tires to ensure that no accidents will happen. If it is indeed a long journey, you must consider replacing them because long drives wear tires quickly. This also causes blowouts for worn out tires.
  5. Car air filter – A good supply of clean air for your engine improves the performance and efficiency of your car.
  6. Wash your car – Before going on a trip, make sure the windows are clean so that your line of sight is clear. While you’re at it, just clean the car as a whole to keep it presentable.
  7. Lights and signals – Make sure that your signals are working well to avoid collision and other accidents. Also, make sure your lights are performing well in case you will be driving during nighttime.
  8. Emergency equipment – To make sure that you are ready, check if you have included all emergency equipment such as up-to-date maps, mobile devices, spare tires, and emergency tools. You could also include medicinal kits and flares in case of other emergencies.
