Safety Precautions for Solo Drivers

Driving alone especially when it’s late at night can post some dangers. The risk factor goes even higher when you are a female driver because you are more likely to be targeted by criminals. Most women are usually attacked in parking lots or quiet and dark streets.

However, regardless of your gender or if you are traveling during the day or at nighttime, there are a number of factors you should consider when you’re driving alone. A car crash, carjacking, kidnapping, and burglary are just some of the risks associated with solo driving. Most importantly, you should be prepared and alert all the time.

Here are some tips to keep you safe whenever you’re traveling alone.

1. Plan your route ahead.

Before you even step out of the house, make sure you know exactly where you are going. Check your destination and set your GPS system if necessary.

Bring a map for back-up in case your GPS fails. As much as possible, stay on the highway and avoid abandoned side streets.

2. Check the condition of your car.

This is why regular maintenance is important. It keeps your car running in good condition all the time.

Inspect your tire pressure and keep your wheels clean with the KevianClean Wheel Cleaner. Check if your gas tank is full. Make sure everything is properly working to avoid any mishaps.

3. Tell someone where you’re going.

Advise a family member or friend where you plan to go and what route you plan to take. Inform them once you’ve reached your destination safely. In case something happens on your way to your destination, your family or friend will be alerted if you don’t call.

4. Always stay alert.

Pay attention to everything that is around you including the vehicles next to your car just in case someone is following you. Once you suspect someone is behind you, drive to the nearest police station.

5. Park in a safe environment.

Never park your vehicle in a dark area so that you won’t attract predators from approaching you and your vehicle. If you need to stop and pull over while you’re on a highway, pick a safe spot and do not stop on a curved road. You may accidentally collide with other vehicles.

Driving alone may be unavoidable at times, this is why it is always best to be prepared and stay alert all the time. Just simply follow the tips above for a safe and hassle free travel.
