How to Clean your Interior Carpet

Maintaining a clean carpet should always be included in your regular car check-up list. Although it may not be as urgent as washing your windshield or fixing your engine, a clean floor equals a hygienic and healthy environment.

Cleaning your carpet is simple, quick, and easy. This task shouldn’t burden you at all. In fact, the rewards of a clean and germ-free interior are greater than the job itself.

Just follow these steps:

  1. Pick up the loose trash. Bring out any objects that are lying on the floor. If you often have garbage in your car, you should consider using a small container as your trash. Parents who often drive with their kids may need to install a trash bin to collect their kids junk.
  1. Remove the floor mats. Take them outside and shake them off. This will get rid of all the particles and dirt stuck in your mats. Afterwards, vacuum your interior. Once you’ve gotten rid of the loose particles, vacuum all areas inside your car. This includes under the seats, pedals, and cracks to make sure all residue are cleaned up.
  1. Use a good carpet cleaner and high-quality brush. There are many types of carpet cleaners in the market to choose from. However, if you want to save a few bucks, you can use a laundry detergent. Use a soft bristled brush to scrub the fabric of your carpet. Apply the carpet cleaning agent on the surface of the carpet. Let the solution sit for at least 10 minutes so it can be properly absorbed by the fabric. Use a circular motion to effectively lift off the dirt from the carpet. For bigger stains and dirt, repeat the steps as needed.
  1. Rinse the carpet with a wet cloth and apply it on the soapy areas. Make sure you remove the soap but avoid soaking the carpet with water because it will only breed molds underneath. Afterwards, allow your carpet to dry. Otherwise, the moisture left on the fabric will not go away on its own.

Open all the doors and windows of your car and let it dry under the sun. It will probably take a couple of hours before it dries completely. Make sure the carpet is fully dry and not damp.
